How do I make pedestal planters?

Question

After seeing how expensive it would be to purchase high and long pedestal planters, I’d like to create them maybe using large white resin totes/containers atop white milk cartons to give them height. I can see it in my mind. Any ideas how to create something that doesn’t look like what I’m starting out with?

You could, after you've got them fastened together, maybe use plaster or concrete to coat them, and either add color to the medium or paint them afterwards. You also may want to fill those milk cartons with concrete or stones so they will be more stable. I guess you could flare out the bottoms of the pedestals when you're coating them. Just an idea.

Hi Judy. I'm Cindy. I purchased 4 shutters from Habitat for Humanity last year. They were very affordable, $2 each. The only bad thing was they were different colors. I spray painted all 4 with white paint. I attached them together with hinges. I used 8 hinges total. One set near the top and one near the bottom. Then I put L Brackets, one on each shutter, 4 total. I laid a piece of wood on top of the L Brackets. I put them inside and down far enough so that you won't see the pot that I have my plant in. Looks great. Good luck with yours.
