First get the water out of the tank and bowl. Then remove the lid. Make sure the water is out . In the bowl part, yup get the water out. Have a doubled up black plastic bag to put the tank in. The bottom part is next..should be 2 bolts/ screws on both sides of the bowl get them off and save for new toilet. There should be a slightly flattened wax ring arround the sewer pipe. Remove and replace with new. Occasionally you will need 2 of them to get the seal tight. Put the toilet over the sewer pipe and line up the holes in the floor to the screw in part on the lower bowl.
Dfm left out an important step, first cut the water off. There should be a cut off around back of the toilet. I know it's a simple step but sometimes people forget.
I would recommend buying a kit that has everything in it with the replacement toilet.
Do be certain to dig out ALL the old wax ring so the new sits properly. This is a sticky, yucky task so use an old wood stick and have some newspaper nearby to put the wax on. Depending on the height of your finished floor, you may need just a regular wax ring or one with an extender if there is a high floor from the sewer pipe.
The easiest way to drain the toilet is to turn the water off and then flush again. This will empty the tank. I use a Dollar Store baster to get the remainder out of the bowl so nothing is left.
Disconnect the tank from the bowl. Makes removal much lighter to carry to the curb.
Thank you!!!
