you can buy tear drop glass prisims that have a tiny magnet on the end and string them together, then connect the magnet inside the water spout
Beads.
I tend to be multi media. I would combine the hot glue, prisms, and beads. Also consider mirrors, mylar, touches of blue or silver glitter. Maybe even incorporating strands of fishing line or fine ribbon especially translucent or irridesicent. But another thought occurrs to me. What about the acrylic/lucite/resin casting material often used in making paperweights tabletops, etc. Or the faux water product used in vases with faux flower arrangements. Can they be slow poured or cast in a way to create your faux water? I've never worked with these products. I believe they require some cure or set time. But definitely worthy of looking into.
