How to paint a hutch without losing detail?

Just bought this but it is a little too 'creamy' colored for me. I want to paint it a Bistro White but I love the detail on the top. How can I paint it without losing the detail of it. All white would seem to make it disappear.

Use stripper to remove existing paint. That will prevent build up in the carving. You can also highlight the details with colored wax or glaze. It will provide more depth.

Hi Cindy ,Kathy has an Excellent idea! That would make it stand out !

You could also use a marking paint pen .

( It comes in antique gold, gold, silver bronze and copper) Also taping the edges would help to get a clean finish.

Check out "Paint It Beautiful" on Facebook. This is a FMP ( Fushion Mineral Paint site. Love, love what u can do with anything and professionals on the site that can show u what they have done. I am not a retailer, just a lover and admirer of what I have redone and what u can do with your furniture. And by adding maybe wax u can make your detail pop

you could dry brush it with a gold paint or whatever color accent you want to accent the detail

I antiqued my hutch and then painted my leaves green and flowers rose color.its quite nice. Your paint will not cover up the grooves of the leafs.i like the idea of highlighting the leaves with glaze. Good luck

I hope you post when it's done!

I have the exact same hutch in my office (house converted to office space) and I don't want to throw it out because it's a good piece of furniture - and matches the kitchen cabinetry in the office - but want to modernize it.

Not sure on what replacement knobs or if I should go 2 colour or chalk paint.

    Interested to see your result!

Just lightly sand the whole piece with 220 grit sandpaper to remove any shine. Wipe down with a damp cloth. Paint your color but dry brush the details so not to get paint in the grooves. If you do get paint in the grooves just dig it out with something sharp but not metal. To emphasize the details you can use glaze or darker watered down paint. Paint over the details getting in the grooves and immediately wipe off with clean cloth.
