I paint tables and desks with a wedgewood blue base, and stain the tops with ipswiic pine stain and the drawer knobs.
I did a pedestal dining room table with the pine top, and the pedestal and apron with the blue using 2-3 stripes on the base.
Then I did a 9 drawer low-boy chest of drawers doing the top pine and the knobs, and then the drawer fronts in the blue to turn it into a country media center.
I used satin paint. and a satin crystal clear top coat on the tops and knobs.
My girlfriend loved it to go with her new blue sofa and chair.
I have painted kitchen tables with a latex enamel paint. I added a piece of glass for protection and to make the top larger than the table base.
