Trying to salvage an old table that has a dark woodgrain formica tabletop. It has a cloudy film on it and everything I've tried did nothing.

It may be worn through the top coat.
You could use acrylic paint. Look for directions for how to paint Formica counter tops. Then apply polyacrylic (clear) to seal. It looks hard but is really easy. All you do is dab the colors on with a sponge. Just remember to apply 4 light coats of poly every 30 minutes until you have all 4 coats on. Just did my two bathrooms and it turned out great!

Hi Brenda, make a paste out of Dawn dish washing liquid, baking soda, and a small amount of water. Scrub the entire table top with the mixture, then use a clean cloth and water to rinse, rinse, rinse. Buff the table with another soft cloth until it is completely dry. It should help shine it up.
Thank you all for the suggestions. I do believe I'll end up painting it and coating it with poly, since the film still remains after trying these things.
