Hi Carol. Tape around the base of the spindles along with some newspaper or plastic will keep your steps free of paint. It's all in the prep!😊
Hi Carol. I find the easiest way to paint spindles is to use an old thick sock (after taping off the carpet area. You put the sock over your hand and then dip it in paint. You can then use your sock covered hand to paint the spindles. Country Chic Paint also make a great sponge that is great on spindles.

Your best bet is to use painter tape on the step around the base of the spindle.
