How can I troubleshoot a broken heater/ which new one should I buy?
Hey everyone As the winter is done my heater is also done. Some kind of sound is coming out of it after five minutes. Last day during midnight a big bang sound came from it and my baby started to cry. I was not able to do anything. I just went ad switched off the heater. Thats what I can do. I spoke about this to my friend. She told me to go for HVAC repair from Toronto. She told it may because of the work load during the winter season. Is there need for replacement? If they suggest to replace which brand will be the best option for my home?

You might contact the company who put the unit in or the manufacturer, have the make and model numbers ready for their hot line. Have this investigated now and get it fixed, hopefully you do not have a dangerous situation in progress.
Here is a link that possibly explains your problem so you get an idea of what is goiing on:

There are many things that can cause the symptoms you described. A loud bang could simply be a duct popping or problems with the gas. Have a trustworthy technician do a diagnostic with estimate for repair. This should cost between $50 and $100. The needed repair could be a maintenance cleaning of $100, or you may have bigger issues but a new furnace is several thousand dollars so don't jump the gun to replacement yet.
First, until you get it repaired/replaced I would make sure it is turned off and whatever fuel source is also shut off. A faulty heater can cause carbon monoxide (odorless) gas which kills many people (and entire families) each year.
Second, before winter hits I would contact 3-4 reputable companies (check with FB groups in your area to get names of reputable companies they recommend) to come for an inspection to determine if it can be repaired or needs to be replaced. They should be able to recommend the best unit for the temps in your area.
