Hi Tina! My absolute fool proof way of finding studs in my home is to use a magnetic stud finder. I discovered this trick when I lived in a home with plaster coated walls. They're inexpensive, and are surprisingly accurate. The one I use is less than $10, and the magnet also seconds as a quick screw/nail pick up when needed. : ) Here is an affiliate link to the product I use. [url=http://
the BEST way is to buy a stud finder.
Tina, my husband can find them by gently tapping on the wall. I don't know how he does it, but I do know home improvement stores have a tool that finds the studs for you! It is small and not that expensive, just ask at your local home improvement store for it. Hope this helps! If it were up to me, that is what I would have to do.
Tina: this should solve your problem rather inexpensively
I use a stud finder, but I also use a tape measure at clients houses. Start measuring from the corner.... most studs nowdays are 16" on center, but older homes can be 16" to 23". Then either hammer in a nail or drill a pilot hole with a very fine drill bit to check.
