Hi Lynda. I'm Cindy. Paint a wall a color of your liking. Allow to dry. Then use a sponge to dab on a different color. A kitchen sponge would work, or a make up sponge would work too. The type of sponge is up to you. You could make a formal pattern, or a pattern that is very informal and hap-hazard. You could also use different sponges to make things interesting.

It's been a few years but I sponged quite a few rooms back in the day and I always used a large sea sponge. Mainly because they're not square so it makes them more flexible to work with. I found mine at a craft store. If you've never done sponging before I would do a test area first on a random piece of plywood or something so you can practice the look you're going for. Sponging is a lot of fun and the design possibilities are really endless depending on the colors you use.

I guess I'm going to try to discourage you from sponge painting your walls. Reasons for this? Well, it's truly an out of date decorating idea, and it seldom looks good. This method was popular in the late 80s and early 90s and I personally saw only one instance in which it looked fabulous. Perhaps the colors chosen? The other items in the room? Why not try a more current design such as color blocking or stripes?

Home depot has a whole kit for this. You can buy that and it will be easy as it comes with instructions.
