Eell Shelly, l guess you would have to build the large bird feeder, very carefully!
A rot resistant wood like cedar would be a good choice. Cedar fence boards are a cheap source of wood. Look at some available feeders and copy them. You need a piece of plastic so you can see the seed level.
This site has a bunch of different plans for them: https://www.guidepatterns.com/diys-to-make-a-wooden-bird-feeder.php
this was my late husband's solution. He took an old wooden screen door- paint wood any color. Set up 2 wooden (painted) support horses. Lay the screen door between the horses. Crazy? It was a snap to keep clean. (rake up seed hulls on ground). We eventually poured a concrete slab. Did we have squirrels? Yea. It was Long Island-no bears. Keep swept up and no rodents. Garden hose spray clean. We attracted many birds, many varietys. Our dogs chased stray cats, and we had a fence around the whole place. Husband was veterinarian. Loved animals.
I love that! Always loved ol wooden screened doors....sound from childhood. What a wonderful idea and simple. Thank you for sharing!
