Can you use a bifold door? You don't mention where this doorway is and what you are closing off. Some doors could be cut down to fit your opening.
If you have the space beside the door you could hang a sliding (barn style) door. It would need to slip easily behind anything that may be beside that doorway. You could also go with the bi-fold door, that option would be easier and more cost effective.
