Here’s What Flight Attendants Say You Should Do To Your Suitcase Wheels For Easier Travelhttps://www.simplemost.com/heres-flight-attendants-say-suitcase-wheels-easier-travel/
You can get casters that have a threaded end. You’d make a hole then tighten a nut onto the threaded part from inside the bag.
Thanks, that is what I was thinking. The bag only has a flimsy plastic sheet at the bottom. Should I add some reinforcement? Like what?
The thin plastic bottom on the bag is not going to be sturdy enough to support any caster mounting hardware. If you look at ready-made luggage pieces, they usually have molded plastic framing at the bottom to support the casters. Also, for luggage you will want 'spinner' casters, not the regular casters such as are found on furniture.
Casters are not inexpensive. By the time you purchase spinner casters, mounting hardware, reinforcements for the bottom of the bag and adhesive, it will likely be more cost effective to purchase a new piece of luggage with integrated casters installed at the manufacturing stage.
Macy's.com and Target. com always seem to have luggage on sale at greatly reduced prices. I found the example below (with spinner casters) regular $160, priced at $54.
