3po3 on Aug 07, 2012All I know is that my late grandmother would have been happy to take all those leaves off your hands. She was a fantastic Armenian cook, and could pick, then stuff, grape leaves for days on end. I have tried to grow grapevines, and can't keep them alive, let alone let them get out of control, but this document is very thorough and informative: http://winegrapes.tamu.edu/grow/pruning.html Good luckHelpful Reply

Walter Reeves on Aug 08, 2012You can do the best pruning in January, when leaves are off. You need two posts 10' on either side of the plant, between which a strong steel cable is stretched to support two main "arms" that you'll identify in pruning. I have pictures here http://www.walterreeves.com/food-gardening/muscadine-and-scuppernong-pruning/Helpful Reply

RayHart on May 16, 2016Cut that thing all the way to the ground (to about 1 foot above ground) and wait for new shoots. Just retain 2 of the new shoots and train them like you see done in vineyards.Helpful Reply
