How to properly seal a heating vent?

I have a heating vent in my entry way that has a large antique amour sitting over it. I want to seal off the vent to prevent the hot air from blowing on the wood amour and potentially drying out the wood. This vent does not have a switch to close the vents. What is the best way to seal this vent without it being a permanent fix?

We use a magnetic sheet ,you can find them at Wal-Mart. ( if your vent is metal)

Not sure why, but I've been told that it's not a good idea to seal off vents.

I can only assume that your vent is coming from the floor like mine. It's not good to cover them, if the room would get too cold. Unfortunately, I have furniture on top of a few of the vents in my home. To stop them from drying out the furniture above them, I went to HomeDepot and bought some vent diverters. You can find them on the aisle that the vents are on. They're made of plastic and adjust to cover the vent and blow the air in an outward direction instead of directly up and out. They have magnets on the sides to make it easy to use, but my floor vents that I needed to cover are made of wood that match my flooring, so I simply used the 3M picture hanging velcro tape, which easily comes off if you want to remove it. I put pieces on the vent or floor, then put a piece on the vent diverter, making sure to line up the pieces one of top of the other. Then simply push the two pieces of the velcro together to keep it in place.
