I have been considering cork flooring for an upstairs loft style master bedroom.

I don't know anyone who has used this material. Does anyone have any experience with cork (good or bad)?

Cork flooring is certainly a personal choice of aesthetics. I wouldn't personally go in that direction, as the flooring is too soft and not that easily cleaned. Any heavy furniture will certainly leave an imprint on the flooring, so even if you stain it and seal it, if the furniture is moved, the stain and seal will be cracked and comprimised there. However, if you choose to go with the cork flooring, I certainly recommend getting it sealed.

Cork is gentle on the feet...but about the least robust flooring material available. It is easily damaged my water. Normally this is not a problem, but even bedroom floors need cleaning now and then. A few years back a client of mine had cork installed in an upstairs bedroom....this was not my install nor recommended by me...I was there doing some tile work. Soon after the work was completed he had a guy "clean" the floor with a damp mop....the mopping was a bit on the wet side. In essence the floors were trashed in the first week. Swelling and seam separation were widespread and it took weeks for the seems to "flatten out".... even then the did not look to nice.... I would recommend a nice solid hardwood floor. They are "green" and if properly cared for with outlive you by a long shot.
