Great piece! Here are some links to give you ideas how to rework your piece. Needs ventilation on all 4 sides.

There are some examples on Pinterest. Remove the doors, make one side rails or grating ( there are some nice metal drafting options at Home Depot. Replace the second door with a small barn door like entry. Stain/paint, put bed inside and voila!
Remove the doors and insert some comfortable, non-slip bedding. To create the door you need to decide on a latch and your wire mesh. You can build the frame of the door out of 1 x 2 in lumber. If your dog is a chewer you might want the wooden frame on the outside of the crate. You can pretty much use any kind of mesh/fence. Don't use metal designed to cover a radiator, it wouldn't allow the ventilation your pet needs. I would use two of the original hinges to hang the door, that way you don't have to make new holes in the cabinet. Your hinged side will be stronger if you let your side pieces of wood go the entire height of the door and fit the top and bottom rails in between. There are several ways to put your wooden frame together, screws are best. If you don't know how to make pocket holes ask your friends for help. There is a good chance that someone will have the jig and make the holes for you.
Why couldn’t you remove the doors, cut the center panels out and install the fencing of your choice on the INSIDE of the doors. Put some small strips of wood over the edges of the fencing ( inside the doors to keep them from scratching your fur baby) and buy the latch of your choice to use in the center. You wouldn’t need to refinish anything except for the small areas of exposed wood where the centers were cut away.
Hi Lori, hope this helps you out.

Wire cages are made to have ventilation. A dog bed with a pillow inside maybe.
