If it’s an adjustable rod, it will unscrew a little more to make it tighter
Or you could buy those little plastic C looking cups and set the shower rod in those. Should be available at any hardware of big box store.

These things work good. You might have to get two sets and use only the open one from each set for both ends of your rod.

I have a tension rod in my shower and have had no problems....there are white plastic cup thingys on each end and they do not slip nor slide on the wall, while keeping taunt.
