I’m keen to get something easy to use, lightish in weight, sturdy to last, will suit basic building with wood and metal. There are so many to chose from. What brand, model etc? Jo (Joanne)

Hi Cberry thank you for your fast response. I am in Australia, where do you live? Just wondering if I can get it here? I'm thinking you may live in the US?

Try holding a few different drills. You want one that won’t fatigue your hand When working with it., and you need to note where the power switch is...can you reach it easily, does the chuck attatch to the cord, or is it separate?

In my experience the cordless drills do not last that long without needing to be recharged. There are few things more frustrating that being half way into a project and then have to stop to wait for the darn thing to recharge. Many people who prefer the cordless because they are using it mainly in areas where there are few or no electrical outlets to plug them in, have two or three on the go at all times. Also, the cordless drills are heavier than the electric drills.

Dewalt is a great brand to try. For starter projects I think an electric compact drill is what you should look into

Still using my first drill - 30 years later. A simple electric corded Black and Decker model. I use 1-3 times a year. No need for me to invest in an expensive one. Just have to replace the bits.
