Glass Top Stoves

Does anyone know how to remove buildup on glass-top stoves around the element? We use a glass-top cleaner, steaming in with a microwaved hot towel, and rubbing, but can still feel the
residue there.

I recently tried a new-to-me cooktop cleaner, Carbona Ceramic Cooktop Powder Cleaner. It comes with a little scrubbie and it blows the other cooktop cleaners I've tried right out of the water. Sometimes I also use a razor blade to carefully scrape off cooked-on residue but this Carbona stuff works so well that I rarely have to use the razor blade anymore. I have also found that it really helps to clean spills and splatters promptly after the burner cools because otherwise it seems like each successive time I cook, the older stuff really bakes on and then it is as hard as concrete.

I have also VERY GENTLY scrubbed with a Brillo pad. No damage and some old baked on spots came right up.

I have a special knife, that is safe for glass top stoves. I also, have a cleaner-"Weiman" Glass top cleaner. First put a little cleaner on the top than gentley scrap the debris off, rub the glass cleaner all over the top. Keep doing this scraping very gently, it will come off. When the debris is totally off rub the cleaner and wipe off with dry paper towels, this does work. I have had my Glass top for seven years, and it looks "BRAND NEW" (You can purchase the knife and cleaner from Walmart). Hope this helps.

@Alice Landwert The next time you need to buy cleaner, consider trying the Carbona that I mentioned above. I used to use Weiman too but I think the Carbona works so much better!

Try baking soda and vinegar . Put the baking soda on and spray the vinegar the chemical reaction should remove or loosen the build up .

Don't laugh! You are going to think I am crazy but this works, at least for me! Go to your laundry room, get your Shout or Spray @ Wash, let it set but not dry. If it dries, spray more. Your stove top will shine like new! It's safe for the knobs as well! I have teenagers! After all, that stuff is made to cut grease. The little knife is for the built up gunk! Shines like a new penny, girls! Good luck!

Tried the Spray n wash, as well as the vinegar and baking soda .. no luck there yet. Even tried using a hot steaming towel and covered the burner, nada. Thanks for your suggestions, though. Our local Lowe's does not carry the Carbona product. Trying elsewhere.

@Linda, try Walmart. I got my Carbona at my grocery store, Publix, but I don't think the Publix chain has stores as far north as NY. I seem to recall seeing it at Walmart though. Actually, I just went to the Carbona website and here's a list of the stores that supposedly carry it: http://www.carbona.com/storelocator.php

Barkeepers friend is awesome for this.Pour it on and let it sit a while then use a Scotch guard pot scrubber. Works wonders.

Thanks, y'all. Carbona is supposed to be sold here at Price Chopper & Walmart, so I'll try this wknd. Will look for Barkeeper's as well.
