We are remodeling an old farmhouse and repainting kitchen cabinets. I would like to use the original copper handles and hardware but they are coated with grime. How do I clean them?

Hi !From my experience , the best way to clean copper is a mix of vinegar and very fine salt , to the consistency of sour cream. Apply this mixture all over the surface you want to clean with a soft rug (cotton) , and rub where the deposits are bigger. You can apply this twice or as many times you want until the shine suits you. Wear rubber gloves and do this job outside , the gases are not too pleasant !...Rinse with warm water and do NOT touch the surfaces with your finger when you wipe its with cotton rug. Good luck ! You can make a paste with baking soda and a little dash of lemon juice. Apply on the handles, let sit long enough to remove the grime and wipe off with a soft brush. Or you can also try rubbing a little ketchup.

ketchup also works, put on rag and rub on knobs, rinse off when done.
