Scrub out your bird bath with vinegar. Rinse well. Change your water daily.

A tooh brush and baking soda...scrub and rinsee well....
Scrub with salt...rinse and if possible move to the shade...if it is a concrete basin, a good scrubbing with clorox...1/2 cup to a gallon if water...and rinse well and allow to dry.....chlorine is a gas and won't be toxic to the birds
It's okay to use household bleach when you clean it, any residue isn't harmful. Bird keepers at the zoo use bleach on exhibit pools.
