I'd use faux garland etc. in that case. Natural wood and greens may absorb water and get musty.
I lived in the Galveston area for close to five years. I used artificial greens, a little tinsel garland and lights on the porch posts and rails. and lights along the roof line of the porch. They will be reusable for years to come and you will be able to add to it in the coming years. A wreath on the door would be good. I stayed away from live garland greens on the porch posts and rails because they dried out so quickly with the stronger sun. I still have some of the garland that I used back then in the eighties that my mom gave me when she switched colors for her Christmas décor.
