Outdoor Christmas light ideas that do not look like Christmas

by Tammy Hawkins
I have two strings of solar Christmas lights that I did not get to use this year. I am looking for outside ideas for them that won't look like it is Christmas. The Community in which I live, frowns upon (fines actually) if Holiday, especially Christmas decorations are not taken down at a certain time. Any ideas?

You can decorate a shepherds hook plant hanger or underside of a table umbrella. You can also cover a small trellis with lights. As long as you don't have the lights hanging from the eaves like tradional lights, Santa or a reindeer up I can't see how decorating with white lights would be too Christmassy

You could make "chinese water bombs" which is a square box folded out of paper and slip those over the lights to string across/around your porch. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/39476934211914741/

Use tomato cages over any flowering plants and run the lights through that. I do this every season and it looks amazing at night.

I am glad you asked this question Tammy, I kind of went crazy buying solar Christmas lights AFTER Christmas, I am in PA and wanted to decorate with them this Spring & Summer, but didn't want them to look too much like Christmas. If I come up with or find any ideas, I will let you know, I DID have one idea to repurpose light globes with the lights somehow

@Thank You Nancy J I am sure that a fantastic idea will come forth. This is an amazing group of highly creative people. I like some of the ideas that have been suggested but they won't work in my front yard, would be fantastic in an outdoor patio but not the area where I want to use them.

@DJ That is an adorable idea but sadly it wouldn't work in the yard, the papers wouldn't make it through the rain, but would be really cute in the house or a covered patio

I found lovely bird feeders that look like lanterns. I put the colored lights inside and attached the solar panel to the top of the feeder. It is perfect!

My final result, with much thanks to everyone for your great suggestions. I would have had this finished sooner but a friend became ill and I was away for a month taking care of her. Thank you again for all of your suggestions!
