Can heavy duty contact paper cover ceramic tiles?

I know people have done it, but of course I can't find specific directions. It's not meant to be permanent so it's mostly done by renters. You didn't say where you want to do it, but backsplashes seem to be popular. I wouldn't do i on a floor because it won't hold up. The problem is the grout between the tiles. The contact paper may or may not stick there and if it does, it could look like tile anyway. If it doesn't, you'll have air bubbles. The best site I found (below) actually used wallpaper but the principal is the same. The only steps that I'm not sure about are #4 & #5. Doing those steps would definitely make it more permanent, I think. But I also think it would be harder to change it in the future.
