Glenna Kennedy
by Glenna Kennedy
Ive taken up painting on different types on mediums..one is light bulbs and I love doing it. Some of the patterns I see and try to copy have feet to make them stand up and I wondered if anyone knows what material they use for these feet. Here Ive used styrofoam but it doesnt look right. The photos on pinterest look like a more solid material. Does anyone know what this is?

Looks like you have done a great job with this one. I did many of these in the past but never made one to stand alone. They are hanging ornaments. Good luck with your project.

This is the latest I did and from the picture on pinterest it has some kind of base for feet but I can tell what it is made of.

I was just telling my mom about the snowman and she reminded me of the tweetie we did years ago. I will have to call and tell her of the grinch. We glued the tweetie bird to a small craft board and painted it black.

Have you tried clay? You can buy oven baked or air dry to sculpt the feet or any type of base.

that was my next thought WannaB. I havent used it yet so will have to do some trial and error to see what works..Barbie never thought of wooden hearts..thanks girls you are helping alot.

A strange idea, born of a big mess, and my husbands silly comments: what if you use a small water balloon, fill it partially with spray foam, sit the light bulb on it after it expands a bit. When the foam is dry, take off the balloon and paint the foam. You could also carve the foam after you take the balloon off. (The big mess was a dropped can of spray foam that squirted all over the place. I don't remember what my husband said, but the idea I came up with at the time was to make pumpkins in the same manner as described, and form them while still soft in the balloon.)

Oh, and I like the base in your first photo just fine. I thought you were trying to figure out how to make one like that! lol

Lol Nancy. The spray foam isnt a bad idea tho....wondering if I could find a small mold thats flat and spray the foam in making sure its level and then let it harden. The problem Im having is getting something level to set the curved bulb on so it will stand up.

you know polymer clay might work for you ...you can bake it for a short time and it gets hard and then you can paint it the color you need it to be... its fun to work with... but your little bulbs are just so super cute.. i love them..

When I worked for a craft maker we used 2 and 3 inch wood hearts. They were put on the bottom of bells, eggs made into birds. Whatever we needed feet for that was our first go to.
