How do you cut the bottoms off of old bottles?

Question

Help!   There are so many projects that I have in my old head (I'm a senior crafter 75 year young) that involves cutting the bottoms off old bottles.  It doesn't have to be a smooth cut, because it will be used only for decorations only.    I love it when I can help younger people with things that I myself had a hard time  dealing with year agoI love this site, because everyone seems to be so friendly and helpful, so I give a big Thank You ahead of timeCookie.

I like to cut bottles by scoring with a bottle cutter. This one gives a line that is even http://www.michaels.com/diamond-tech-green-bottle-cutter/10254030.html . Then tap it a bit. But use the hot/cold treatment to bust it apart at the score.

For me, I wold still want it to be smooth since I tend to be klutzy. I have never tried this so I have no other words of advice. I live in the woods so have many 4 footed neighbors who are klutzy and tend to break anything glass so I gave up on glass, no matter how pretty it is.
