I think it is really cute. Maybe you can paint the background blue and add some glitter? (or little stars?). but I think it looks really nice the way it is:)

try decoupaging a scene from a christmas card on the back of the jar.
  • Sue Rauch Sue Rauch on Nov 11, 2013
another thought would be use some snow in a can and spritz lightly everywhere except a small area to see into the jar.

you can glue a small saucer to the top and fill with candies. or remove some of the items in the jar like the light and gift to simplify it a bit.

I too would suggest that you remove the light and gift...but also turn the snowman slightly to his right...not much, just a little. This keeps him from looking like he is ignoring the little girl. Please make sure you leave the tree off center to the left. Otherwise, sweet, pretty globe!

All good advice. The decoupage idea with snow would be a great idea.
  • Dee Dee on Nov 12, 2013
I would suggest removing a little from the jar. Hobby lobby has glass candle holders that fit into the top of a mason jar or try using a solar lite lid.
  • Dee Dee on Nov 12, 2013
I like alot of suggestions here try one or more good luck.

looks good, I would delete the button and twine bow....use something finer, like a bakers twine. Or cotton off white cording...or translucent ribbon...use a light amountT

I agree with Dee. Remove something, I would suggest the snowman. You could find a smaller one. The proportion between the tree, the snowman and the jar are not pleasingly proportional..
  • Joy Derouen Joy Derouen on Nov 13, 2013
I think its cute just the way it is.
  • Diana Diana on Nov 13, 2013
I agree with Joy I like it the way it is. The fun thing about doing these jars is to make it fit what you like. If you want lighting use the solar light lids like Dee suggested.
  • Shaun Shaun on Nov 13, 2013
    It's so cute!

I love your country look with the button and twine. Maybe replace one large ornament, with little details that are fun to see underneath the tree. Little mice, cookies for Santa, tiny presents. Good luck.

All these suggestions are gr8 Spray some Glitter esp on the top of jar and over the twine
  • Jacqui Hart Jacqui Hart on Nov 13, 2013
I would get rid of the string and putsome greens or like a small wreath around the base and cover the top with cotton balls to make it look more like snowy/w a little lite glitter on top of the cotton balls

Tammy--- Cute project...I like everything you chose to include but it just seems too crowded for the space. If you want to keep the tall mason jar then I agree with some of the other commenters about editing the number of items you put in it. If you're willing to change the jar shape you might try a shorter round jar (like a snow globe) that would give you the wider space to incorporate everything you chose without crowding it all together. To me it would give you more of a "landscape" effect. Do finish it though...it is really a cute idea. Good luck!

It's really cute! ...I might spray an ice spray on the inside of the jar in the bkgd and instead of the twine, use raffia with a sprig of pine. The button is cute as well. :)

I like the idea, wish I would have thought of it. Very cute, love it. It looks so simple.
  • Bobbi Bobbi on Dec 12, 2013
If you don't want to get new ornaments (because they are cute) I would just do something to raise them up from base level about an inch. Then they won't seem crowded.

the glass from hobby lobby is calles a oyster glass. Candle area fit,s in a small mouth jar. use tea lite candles out of the foil or H L has them in clear plastic. you want the light to reflect down in the jar. or as i said before solar lid

just a suggestion, how about turning the jar up the regular way, put the scene in the bottom, spray paint the cap in christmas color, then get wooden knob, like kind you would get to put on drawer handle, found at the flea market or you can go to lowes or home depot. I paid .50 for mine today at flea market cause I am making something similar right now to what you are making. Anyway, paint it same color your cap. Use E6000 Glue you can get at Walmart. You can either use raffia or other ribbon to offset the color of the cap. On some of my jars I am using mod podge and Epsom salts to the outside to create a snow effect. If you want a color or glowing effect to the Epsom Salts mix either food coloring or glitter to the dry mixture of Epsom salt. Brush mod podge on glass jar (outside) then sprinkle or roll empty jar (outside) into epson salts before filling jar with your scene inside. When I finish mine, I will post a picture of it. This is just my idea, the way have it looks great too.

Tammy...it looks great the way it is. No need to add anything else to it. :D

Put a sprig of Christmas tree in with the hemp. Frost the glass and make the brassy lid more rustic looking. Spray a little glitter on the bow! Perhaps move the lantern to the girls side to unclutter and it will look more in proportion. Or...just leave it alone because it is so cute just the way it is! lol
  • Starlett L Starlett L on Dec 18, 2013
    I love it as is!
  • Harrry Harrry on Dec 18, 2013
I like it, my only suggestion would be its location, I would place it in a lighter area.
