Fabric Painting on an Swing Awning?

I have an outdoor patio swing that needs new covers for the cushions as well as a new awning. I have made them before - the cushions are nothing, but I dread doing the awning again. I'm wondering if it can be painted? Will it survive the elements or will it drip paint onto the cushions and deck when it rains? The fabric is a broadcloth weight fabric.

Can you take the awning down?

That fabric should paint well! Are talking a design or plain? I've painted on heavy canvas and other fabrics using acrylics with a fabric medium added and it will be waterproof (holds up in washings and outside) I don't know if you can use reg acrylic housepaint-but keep researching!

Please explain the use of acrylic and fabric medium. Where do I find these? Do you have instructions? The more I think about this, I'm wondering if it would be easier to just dye the awning. It was a solid green (now all faded out) with a print skirt edging that hangs down about four inches (also pretty faded out).

I paint my umbrellas every couple of years with good ole krylon spray paint. They look great and repell water beautifully

You can spray paint it,you can even spray paint the cushions! I spray painted my cushions that are in my kitchen chairs, they look great and now they are stain and water proof. if you can imagine it,or dream it, you can do it,thats my motto! LOL!
