I saw a trick where you take masking tape and put it across the back, covering both holes, use a marker to mark where the holes are, then remove the tape and place it on the wall. This should allow you to level it, as well as placing your screws/nails in exactly the right spot without making more than one hole.
I measure the distance from one keyhole to the other, then I divide that number in half which will give me the distance from center to each keyhole. Next, identify location where picture is to be hung. Determine where you'd normally place a single hole for hanging and measure the distance for either side as determined above. Use a level to insure that placement of each hole will afford an evenly hung and level picture. Make sure that the nails used are small enough to allow insertion into the keyholes.
I thread picture wire through the holes and twist it together to make a single loop that can then be hung on a nail or picture hanger in the wall/
Dianacirce70, I like that idea, sounds like a keeper.
If you can thread through the holes that is the perfect solution! What I've had to do in the past is measure from the center of each hole (say 10 inches apart). Then mark on the wall those two spots and make sure they are level. Tap in penny nails and hang or if it is heavy, then drill in and add two screw-in anchors and screws. Keep about 4 threads showing from the wall and hang on the two screws. Hope that makes sense!
