I have seen other people say they have hung rugs with Command strips using the ones with velcro backs. Make a long strip of them across the top edge, some along the sides, maybe a few in the center back, and along the bottom edge. I have not done this personally, so I cannot personally attest to it, but it is a suggestion.

You might try the Command velcro stick on strips. You could use as many as necessary, and if you ever wanted to remove the rug the Command strips are removable without damaging the surface of your wall.

In order not to damage it, I would purchase drapery clips and hang from a rod

i used 2 pieces of wood the width of what you are hanging, screwed together at multiple places with the edge of the rug between wood but not in the way of the screws. 2” x 2 or 3” for a smallish rug. Bigger for heavier rug. Paint or stain this first. Then put screw eyes and picture wires on the top. Use regular picture holders on wall, or screws if you can hopefully find studs. Pay attention to the weight recommendations of the hangers that go in the wall. This is very similar to how you would hang a quilt. if the lower corners curl, maybe carefully stick down with marching thumbtacks. I bet it will be stunning.
