Since the room sounds dark, I would accent it with lighter grays, whites. Things like pictures frames, vases, bowls, and greenery. If you are looking for something different please let me know and I'd be happy to try and help more.
I agree with Chas above.... Lighter Cream or white drapes, Pillows, accent pieces.. Light colored Throw for the couch etc.. White shades on Pewter or Silver lamp bases,,,, You can try sample pieces by heading out to yard sales, Thrift Shops for Vases/framesetc...then you can use spray paint to give them new life... set them around and see how they look..
