you can't. it's not so much the darkness of the glasses but the uva and uvb protection you need. It's thise up rays that can screw up your eyes and you will not know it right away. Recently amazon banned some if the glasses because they were being sold as eclips glasses but had. I UBS protection. You need both. UVA and uvB protection

That sky show is coming right across where I live. For goodness sakes see if you can't find some that are approved by NASA. I gave way too much for mine because every place around was out of them. Today they seem to be selling $10 max. I was so frustrated I went to the NASA website and had made the remark I was going to double or triple sunglasses and watch that eclipse! Guess what was on NASA's list of 'do not's'? "Do Not Double Deck Sunglasses"

Fake glasses are being sold. Careful. And if someone is ignorant enough to look at the eclipse, please keep one eye closed so you will go blind in only one eye.

Before they had glasses we watched eclipses with viewing boxes, heres a bunch of links to make one. Just don't look at it directly especially when its in full eclipse, you will either go blind or almost blind, Not worth the risk.

You can always wait until they show a video online. It won't hurt your eyes at all.
