Sea shells seem to fade when you bring them inside. Is there some way to bring back the color?

Hello Janet, I too love sea shells, and have used several methods to keep them shiny. One way: use clear nail hardener on the colored side. Apply with the brush included the jar of polish. let dry for an hour. TWO: you could purchase an inexpensive can of spray lacquer** ,in Walmart or paint store. Put paper down to protect other surfaces, or better yet do this outside,SO THE ODOR WILL NOT MAKE ANYONE ILL. ** I PREFER getting the lacquer/varnish in 1/2 pint cans, and using a small paint brush. it eliminates the wasted spray, and still creates a beautiful sheen on the shell. RED DEVIL,OR KRYLON BOTH HAVE EXCELLENT PRODUCTS. Let me know how they turn out? GOOD LUCK ! Bonnie

Hi, Pam! I live at the beach in NC and love, love, love shells! After I bring mine in, I clean and rinse well. I usually let them air dry a day or so outside on a towel. And, yes, it seems they get dull and lose color after this. I think because when they are wet and shiny, they are so darn vivid, as opposed to dry! Anyhoo, I just use either a matte clear gloss enamel spray, or depending where they will be displayed, I have also used a high gloss clear enamel spray. The matte makes them look natural with nice coloring while the high gloss gives that wet, freshly plucked from the sea, look. I just purchase the cheapest brand from Walmart or your local hardware store. Good luck and hope this helps!!
