How to dye or stain clear glass bottles?

We have quite a few (aka a LOT) of empty clear wine bottles (don't judge 
) that we'd like to dye or stain to put on our wine bottle tree. We would like colors such as orange, purple, pink, yellow, and red. We've tried the colored mod podge but it was streaky. We want a translucent (can see through) results.

Glass paint from craft store.
You can buy glass paint at any craft store. Or just spray paint them.
