Can I make Stained glass from acrylic paint and glue?

by Justine
Question ...I am doing a project with my class and wanted to know if this method would work on an acrylic surface or on hard plastic, the kind you find as a covering to a picture frame

Should work on acrylic or glass with no problem. A lot of Hometalkers have made sun catchers using acrylic sheets and faux stained glass acrylic panels as inserts for entry door side lights rather then paint directly on the glass. Copy and paste the link in your browser.

Yes, you can use paint and glue to get the stained glass look on glass that you referenced. You might be better using glue and food coloring dye instead though. The look that comes out with the dye is much more transparent and "stained glass worthy" then that with opaque acrylic paint. Send us a few pictures of the final projects. I would be excited to see how they turned out!

Hobby Lobby sells a stained glass painting kit for around $15... Might be easier than trying to mix your own glass type paints.

You can use acrylic paint for an opaque look, colored dyes for more transparent appearance and combine them on the same piece of plastic or glass.
