IF it is a living room space: I'd put I track lighting, you can move the lights in the direction[s] you want. Simple, easy to follow directions come with the lighting fixture[s]. -

Have you tried track lighting ? Also, you could use hooks in the ceiling (as if you were going to hang plants), but hang the lights instead. Just a suggestion. -
