You can paint mason jars with modge podge and food coloring and bake in the over at 225 for about 45 minutes once you have drained the bottles for about an hour. Once the jars are transparent they are finished baking. If you do this to the inside of the bottle they are food safe or water proof unless you use modge podge for the outside.
I like chalk paint. There are several brands. Just paint it on, and then sand it if you want to distress it.
Spray them.
