There are some wonderful tutorials herein (in Hometalk) which teach how to make pinecone flowers as well as other interesting crafts.

1. Use your needle nose pliers and carefully pull out a row of pine cone pieces all the way around the cone. This will allow a space for you to saw the cone apart! Very carefully, use your craft saw to cut apart the pine cone. ...Carefully peel the pine cone pieces off.
