If I paint trays for TV snack tables, can I eat off of them?

I am looking for white tv snack tables , they have been impossible to find. Instead I thought I'd buy walnut trays, strip, and paint the tops off white but I'm not sure if I'm talented enough to pull this off. Has anyone done this? I am concerned about eating off them when done. Thanks Joanne

Chalk paint no sanding or striping needed and you can put a clear finish on them and eat off just fine.

Have you looked for the oak set of fold-up snack tables? They may be easy to re-finish with a white stain or paint....the finish was not too "thick". Hope this helps...

Use the water base poly in the blue can. Plus it will keep the whites white.

Presumably you want them painted in enamel paint? You should be able to buy lead-free enamel paint (they use it on baby cribs and some baby wooden toys cos little ones like to chew on them!) I have no idea what it would be called where you are but I know we can get it in Zimbabwe so you shouldn't have a problem!!

Salad Bowl finish or Cutting board finish thats about all there is I wouldnt use anything non food safe. Based on painting knowledge from years of experience that would be my advice but sure there are other ways. Do tell me what you end up using though, love to see a pic of final product
