The countertop is from Lowes, it is a fake black granite look in matte finish. I want to add sheen to it so it looks more realistic.

No matter what you on laminate, within a month of daily use, unless you are an 80 year old granny, you will start to see wear and be disapointed.I would have cut a piece of new linoleum and glue it down or a piece of glass and then paint or cover the top as you wish. Or just use some tray, placemats, etc to cover the current wear areas.

Laminate will peel and chip soon. Follow the advice of Johnchip and paint a thin piece of luan or glass cut to match the table. It would last so much longer.
