Most paint stores will make you a tinted primer for your paint color.
I agree! Primers are generally white. Get a good stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123 and have them tint it your color. They will tint it lighter than your finish coat. They can do that for free since your buying the primer from them. It really isn't necessary to tint the primer. Personal choice. Proper prep is the key.
The times I have used darker paint for a project...with no tinted primer...it took a few mor e coats than not having the primer colored. I too like the zinsser products. Multiple light coats of paint do better than one thicker one.
