Best way to refinish an old porcelain coated farmhouse sink
-
D & K on Feb 02, 2015Unless your sink is a composite or fiberglass, the black coating you speak of is most likely the actual steel or cast iron the sink is made from. Automotive paint might work BUT...getting it to adhere to the porcelain would be a problem not to mention it would easily scratch and wear through. Although all is not lost. The most expensive and time consuming option is a two part epoxy paint. It is often used to paint tubs, sinks and tile. There are drawbacks however. Properly prepping the surface area is critical and break out your HasMat gear. Epoxy paint can be extremely hazardous. The second option is do a search online for a porcelain repair kit. There are several available although most all of these are simply a two part epoxy paint that come in a finger nail polish sized container complete with a mini brush. You'll be able to cover the chip or the worn area but you'll be able to notice the repair. And, option number 3; contact a bathtub refinisher. Everything they use to refinish bathtubs they can use to repair or refinish your farmhouse sink.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 02, 2015I agree with Dennis on this. My choice would be to have it professionally finished by a bathtub company. But a good quality epoxy auto finish that is baked on once sprayed will also work.Helpful Reply
