Can a layered distressed look be done with spray paint?

I am DIYing for my wedding in September. A thought came to me today while at work and I am itching to test it out but I need some advice. Over the weekend I spray painted some wooden frames using Krylon’s metallic rose gold. Today I thought I could go over the rose gold with the navy blue spray paint and then give it a distressed look to show the rose gold beneath. I’m thinking I could sand it using a very fine grit sand paper but if there is a better way to accomplish this please let me know!

It would probably work better if the navy was under the rose gold but try it on something. You will not have much of the rose gold showing. It's my experience with metallic is they come off easily. But give it a try.

You could just lightly mist the navy blue over the rose gold. I also agree with Car. Maybe the blue under the rose gold. Try different ways on some scrap wood and see what effect you like. Always good to do a sample prototype.

Thank you all! I'll try it out on a piece of scrap wood. I may try doing a dry brush technique. Not too sure how it will work with spray paint but I'll give it a shot lol.
