You can paint a straw hat with any acrylic paint, spray paint etc. but the key is several light coats. You just don't want to get the hat really "wet" so it gets misshappen.

I have sucessfully spray painted both sraw hats and baskets with spray paints. I prefer Rust-Oleum painters touch 2x.

Acrylic should work fine. Spray paint should be an ideal choice.
i used a cheap spray paint, the WalMart brand, It is held up for several years.
