I read that clear coats dull metallic color. I used a Krylon Shimmer Metallic on a kitchen table, and now stuck on what top coat. What would you recommend, if at all, a clear top coat that's durable, food safe, won't dull or yellow, and compatible with a modified alkyd?

Lacquer! Use a foam roller and foam brush to get a smooth finish. I prefer using several fine coats of spray lacquer.

Thank you that's good to know how about spraying a clear coat over the shimmer metallic Krylon makes a clearcoat But can you sand the metallic finishor will that ruin the metallic thank you

Tom albanese. No sanding required with lacquer. Stays on top and creates a solid sealed surface. Polyurethanes, Krylon, Rustoleum need to be lightly sanded in between coats to bond to previous coats. Generally metallic paint is wet sanded to smooth it out before a clear coat is applied. Similar to painting cars.
