Color suggestion for front door

by Karen
I am getting ready to put my house on the market and know that curb appeal is very important. I would like my front door to "pop" and need color suggestions. The full glass storm door has a cranberry frame, the house is a light gray with shutters that match the storm door frame. The railing on the porch is white. Any ideas as to what would up the curb appeal of my house? Thanks!

You could do a dark grey or black if you don’t want the same color as the storm door.

I agree that dark gray or black would work. A bright white would be nice, too.

  • Can you a pop of color by adding in some fresh flower planters? You could pick up some in varying heights from Lowe's or Home depot to add some organic texture. I've been really liking the ones that are already planted for you. Less mess!

I'd go with the storm door color, and try to find some annual plants that would complement that color --- Million Bells, Coleus, Impatiens, etc. in containers on the steps or porch ...

I would pick the lightest version of the cranberry (almost pink) that you can get......normally I would suggest a dark color for a door but since your trim is dark and you want it to pop, go opposite.....just make sure that the pink is a lighter version of the cranberry......not just some random "bubble gum" color.

You can Put a couple of big resin pots out front on each side of the door with some pretty Caladium in them...with grey I would suggest bright pink ones in a white pot...and add a few sprigs of variegated ivy!

Caladium do not require much attention...just a couple cups of water every couple of days.

Here is a photo of my pot just to show you a pretty pot and one of what Caladium look like.

I want to thank everyone for their wonderful suggestions. You have been very helpful. I have decided to go with a medium gray that's in the color scale of the vinyl siding. The frame of the storm door would be lost in a dark gray and a light grey would not really add much. However, to make the door "pop", I am going to do a stain glass window paint on the window in the door. I'm sorry I neglected to add that to my description. The addition of flower boxes or planters is a great idea and I will incorporate it. Again, I want to thank everyone for taking the time to help me. Once my project is finished, I will post photos if you're interested.
