Do i restain or paint?
I have a dresser that was build in the 17th century, should I paint or restain. This be the first time I have ever stain anything?

If it isin it’s original and good condition you may just want to clean and wax it. Antiques often lose value when anything is done to them.
Please do not do anything to it! Yours sounds like a true antique and it will lose a significant portion of its value if the finish is changed. If you no longer like the way it looks, sell it and use the proceeds to buy something more to your taste. At a minimum, please let an experienced appraiser advise you before you do anything.
PLEASE listen to MAGNOLIA MAMA. If it is suitable for you to still use as a dresser-then it was not junk or cheap when new; and probably would be ruined once painted or even cleaned.
