use Citristrip
Citristrip is a great product ... you may have 'issues' with the 'knots' -- may take more than a couple of applications + a gentle scrub brush/sanding to get into the 'rings' ....
Sand or CitriStrip will work
Use a soy based paint stripper, then sand down to bare wood. Good luck.
