How do you safely remove old paint off a porcelain surface?

Two of the clawfoot tubs have been painted over in the past. Unsure of what kind of paint they used. Flaking off and hard to remove without scratching the original porcelain that is so beautiful underneath.

Home depot has a citrus paint remover that comes in a spray or a brush on. I've used this on all kinds of paint types. Then you can use a little wire brush to help remove it without harming the original piece.

I would try paint stipper, the same as one would use to strip furniture. Test it first on the porcelain to make sure it won't harm it. I like the gel paint stripper, you just apply it with an cheap throw away paint brush, let it sit for a while and the old paint should wipe right off.
